Today was Nintendo's conference at E3 and there was the biggest announcement for Animal Crossing on the Wii yet! The name is Animal Crossing: City Folk and they showed many aspects of it. I'll get a video up here as soon as I find it.

These are some of the things that were announced:

  • City - You can leave your town and go to a city, which has various things to do. There are also many shops, including one owned by Gracie.

  • WiiSpeak - That's right! You will be able to talk with other people in your town.

  • 2008 - The game will come out this year.

I will update this post with some of the minor features later, as well as pictures and the video. This is big news!

Update: Here is the video -

I wouldn't beleive anything completely until it comes right out of Nintendo's mouth, but this sounds pretty reliable:
"And if all goes to plan (and our sources haven't played a mean trick on us), that hands-on coverage will be of Animal Crossing and Punch-Out!! Wii, aka Nintendo's great hopes for 2008."

The article goes on to say that Animal Crossing Wii has been finished for a while, and though it isn't an MMO as suggested by rumours earlier this year, it features heavy use of Wi-Fi sharing (and presumably multiplayer, as in Wild World).

Well we couldn't consider the excerpt from the UK magazine to be official, but now we know what the intentions of the magazine were. It looks like they were in fact implying that Animal Crossing for the Wii will be at E3. If this is true, I think we can expect to literally see the game since the magazine will have an entire article dedicated to it. Anyway, the reason why we can be almost positive they meant AC Wii was because of this blog post at the magazine's website:

"It all sounds very promising and those of you who have read the new issue of Official Nintendo Magazine should already know that Animal Crossing Wii will be unveiled at the conference. So we'd like to know what else you'd like to see Nintendo reveal at E3 2008. What would be your dream line-up?"

Read the blog post here.

Update: He has recently edited his blog post. Nintendo must have been aware that he just made the announcement and tried to stop it as soon as possible!

The UK's Official Nintendo Magazine had an interesting part of their "next month" section.

UK Official Nintendo Magazine

"It's been a while! It's time to visit an old friend. How's your village doing these days?"

It has made bloggers and videogame sites around the net wonder if we'll see some Animal Crossing at the next E3 coming up. The Bell Tree will have any news of the next AC right here!
